Chinese New Year



Chinese New Year has become an important celebration in the Philippines, even for many Filipinos who don’t have Chinese roots. The strong connection between the two cultures comes from centuries of Chinese influence on Filipino life, from language and traditions to food and values. Over the years, Chinese New Year has grown beyond the Chinese-Filipino community and is now embraced by many Filipinos as an opportunity to celebrate prosperity, family, and renewal.

For many, it’s a time for family reunions, to share meals together, and to honor the traditions that come with the new year. Filipino households enjoy symbolic dishes, like tikoy, a sticky rice cake that represents good luck and unity. People take part in customs such as offering prayers for prosperity and wearing red for good fortune. It’s more than just a holiday; it’s a chance for families and communities to come together, celebrate their shared history, and embrace the good vibes of the coming year.


The lively parades, dragon dances, and fireworks make the Chinese New Year celebrations feel extra special. Even those who aren't familiar with the deeper cultural meanings of the event find themselves joining in the fun and excitement. Many also turn to feng shui experts for advice on how to attract positive energy into their homes and lives. At its core, Chinese New Year in the Philippines is a joyful occasion that highlights how different cultures can blend together to create meaningful traditions that bring people closed.

For me this  term in ICT class has been a great experience. We spent a lot of time working on HTML typing, which at first felt a bit challenging, but as we went along, it became really rewarding.
